BECOME A VOLUNTEER

Volunteers are always much needed in order for our organization to run smoothly. Not only do we need people in helping out at the shelter with the animals, we are always looking for individuals interested in promoting the cause and raising awareness, and to help out with our fundraisers and current events.

If you are interested in volunteering, we invite you to fill out our Volunteer Registration Form and send it back to us at info@valleyspcalavallee.com, or it can be also be brought to us in person at the shelter. Please specify what kind of volunteer work you would be interested in.

*** We are currently looking for a few volunteers to help with the organization of our event "Run for Paws". It would involve attending a few meetings from now up until the event, which is being held early summer, and helping out with different tasks. Examples of tasks would include finding sponsors, making various reservations, help with food preparation, organizing live entertainers, etc. We invite you to contact us through our facebook page or to give us a call at 506-473-1803 for more details.***

What kind of tasks can you expect as a volunteer:

Animal Care

  • Volunteers are needed to help keep the shelter environment clean and disinfected and provide the most comfortable, safe and stress-free environment for the animals.
  • Responsibilities include: washing, drying and disinfecting cages, cat rooms and dog kennels, litter boxes, food dishes, toys and blankets; keeping an eye open for animals exhibiting any symptoms of illness and reporting any abnormal behaviours to shelter staff; laundry; stocking animal care items; sweeping and mopping floors; assisting shelter staff. Walking dogs.
  • Skills required: ability to do physical tasks such as bending and lifting; comfortable with animals, possess good cleaning skills, able to follow cleaning procedures in place for the animals safety, and able to work as a team with shelter staff and fellow volunteers.
  • Time commitment: Weekly, bi-weekly or fill-in.

Fundraising

  • Have the opportunity to meet new people in the community while making a significant contribution to your local shelter.
  • Be involved in planning and organizing one or more annual events as well as communicating with potential sponsors.
  • Coordinate and oversee one or more special events, ensuring success in reaching financial goals, and in improving public relations.

Awareness and Education

  • Take part in developing various informative materials (handouts, fun facts, etc.) to improve animal welfare, animal overpopulation and highlight the shelter's needs in a monthly column and on the website.
  • Take part in organizing and planning educative sessions in schools or at other events, and create different materials for distribution at our different activities.
